If you’re a BA in an organization moving from waterfall to Agile, does that mean you’ll be lost with nothing to do?
We certainly don’t think so. BAs have arguably the most important role in an Agile project, because they talk to everyone involved. This course will show you how to combine your existing analysis skills with Agile tools and techniques. This means you’ll be better equipped to deliver value to product owners, manage all of the stakeholder wishlists and ensure your project team know what they’re doing.
As well as keeping your colleagues happy you’ll find yourself in a more exciting and fulfilling role as you see the work you do impact each iteration of product delivery. Far from being lost you’ll have found a way to be more successful.
The first day of this course overlaps with the Agile Product Ownership course, so you will learn the skills and techniques of Product Ownership and then spend an additional day seeing how the skills and techniques of business analysis can be leveraged to make agile projects even more successful.
This course leverages the Agile Extension to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge™ and shows how the Discovery/Delivery techniques covered in the Extension can be applied effectively in agile projects.
The Agile Business Analyst fulfils the IIBA requirements for contributing CDUs (Continuing Development Units) towards your Certificate of Competency in Business AnalysisTM (CCBA®) or Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP®) certification. Who Should Attend
Anyone who works in Agile projects doing ‘Business Analysis’ tasks. This includes Business Analysts, Product Owners, Project Managers, Software Developers and those in Quality Assurance.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities involved in product ownership and where the business analyst can contribute
- Learn how to use a number of tools to help identify which products should be built to maximise business value using tools such as purpose alignment model, kano analysis and value stream mapping
- Understand how to build a product roadmap and link that to business outcomes
Use personas and product design workshops to help define features and quality goals for building a product roadmap
- Understand the shape of a well-formed backlog and how to populate it progressively
- Learn how to practice techniques such as story mapping, prioritization and backlog grooming to build a release plan
- Use paper prototyping and usability heuristics to guide the design of the product
- Elaborate stories for development on a just-in-time basis while ensuring the design principles and architectural guidelines are adhered to
- Understand the role of the Business Analyst in Agile software development teams
- Understand how lightweight modelling techniques are used on Agile Projects
- Understand how to derive User Stories from analysis models such as Process Models, Class Diagrams, State Transition Diagrams and other tools of the analysis trade
- Reduce waste by taking a lean approach to software requirements
- Understand how to integrate requirements management into an Agile software development process
- Utilize guidelines and practices for designing and deploying an effective Agile Business Analysis process
This course is about learning by doing. Along with lecturing there will be lots of exercises and activities which will embed and reinforce all of the things you have learned. This means that when you get back to work you will understand the theory of your role and you’ll be able to put it into practice from day one.
This course builds on your existing knowledge of both Agile and Business Analysis you need to have a good understanding and experience in both to get the maximum benefit from attending this course.
